Cruelty Free Shopping Guide: Harvey Nichols

Who knew that Harvey Nichols, one of Ireland and the UK’s most beloved department stores, stocked a tonne of cruelty-free as well vegan cosmetic brands?

A lot of rigorous research went into this cruelty-free shopping guide, with only the brands who provided sufficient information being listed as cruelty-free.

Harvey Nichols stores are located in Ireland and the UK at the following locations:

  • Knightsbridge, London, England
  • Bristol, England
  • Dundrum Shopping Centre, Dublin 16, Ireland
  • Manchester, England
  • Edinburgh, Scotland
  • Birmingham, England
  • Leeds, England
  • Liverpool, England

I have stated clearly beside each vegan brand that it is 100% vegan.

Pending Brands

These are all of the cosmetic brands available in Harvey Nichols who I have reached out to, but have neither responded yet nor not provided enough information. While I understand that it may take up to seven working days for a brand to respond, I can only determine whether their line is 100% cruelty-free and/or vegan once I receive confirmations that:

  • a) they themselves do not test on animals
  • b) they do not require/ask their suppliers to test on animals
  • c) do not let any third parties test on animals on their behalf
  • d) they they do not sell their brand in China, where it is required by law to test cosmetics on animals

Unfortunately, a small minority of the brands I do contact get taken aback when they receive my query. They either respond defensively in attempt to shut down conversation, or ask me for personal information before they can confirm that they are/are not cruelty-free. This type of response is a red flag for Flawless and Pawless, and until the brand can prove they are cruelty-free efficiently, they cannot be included on the list of Cruelty Free Brands.

Flawless and Pawless is Ireland's cruelty-free cosmetic blog created by 23 year-old cosmetic expert, Ailsha Davey. With eight years working in the beauty industry in Dublin as a professional make-up artist and cosmetic expert, Ailsha discovered some of the horrors of cosmetic animal testing- and the lack of knowledge within the Irish market about it. Flawless and Pawless has been set up to spread awareness across Ireland of cosmetic animal testing, as well as to provide suggestions for cruelty-free alternatives to the Irish market's favourite cosmetic products.
