The Best Cruelty-Free Products of 2017

Happy new year to all of you loyal, cruelty-free enthusiasts! 2017 was one hell of a year, with the success of Flawless and Pawless soaring in the Irish beauty scene. We can’t thank you enough for your support thus far- it’s with your support that we can help to make Ireland cruelty-free!

We apologise for the lack of content during the Christmas period. Let us make it up to you with our summary of some of the ultimate beauty products that became cruelty-free phenomenons in 2017.

Green Angel Argan Body Oil

Couple duo Chris and Mary Mitchell founded this seaweed-based body care product line in 2006, but were no stranger to consumers in 2017. With the brand being available in countless chemists nationwide, it’s so easy to get one’s hands on these unmistakably Irish products. The standout of the brand for me is the Argan Body Oil (€19.95), an amazing cruelty-free alternative to Kiehl’s ‘creme de Corps’ Nourishing Dry Body Oil (€40.00). The aromatic infusion of seratonin-boosting lavender, neroli and geranium uplifts the spirit, and the texture of the oil quickly absorbs into the skin. What makes this product unique is that it contains essential skin nutrients such as Omega 6, Omega 9 and antioxidant Vitamin E. It’s particularly effective at moisturising legs after waxing or shaving!

JASON Smoothing Sea Kelp Shampoo

You may recognise this brand from your local health food store. JASON have a range of cruelty-free products, from skincare to sunscreen- but one of their standout products is their haircare range. The shampoos and conditioners cater to every hair type, are cruelty-free, paragon free and are Leaping Bunny certified. The Smoothing Sea Kelp Shampoo (€7.89) is an amazing alternative to Pantene Pro V’s Smooth and Sleek Shampoo (€7.49). The star ingredients are ginseng root and Plumeria Acutifolia to calm frizz, and Kukui Nut Oil to block out humidity.

Isla Apothecary Blood Orange and Vanilla Scrub

This is a 100% natural scrub with sensational exfoliating power as well as a tasty scent! Organic raw cane sugar scrubs away dead skin cells, while the combination of Shea Butter, Coconut, Peach Kernel and Vitamin E oils replenish the moisture in the skin. It leaves the skins silky soft, glowing and without any oily residue.

Faith in Nature Tea Tree Shower Gel and Foam Bath

Faith in Nature is well known as an international health food store cosmetic product range. Certified by the Leaping Bunny programme, the brand has a variety of haircare and skincare products. A fantastic staple of the brand is the Tea Tree Body Wash, which comes in a generously-sized bottle that lasts well over one month. As Tea Tree is a natural antiseptic, the wash is ideal for use both before and after shaving, and the strong aroma fills the shower with its refreshing scent.

Living Nature Lush Tinted Lip Hydrator

We all like to look good with no makeup on, and that’s why this lip hydrator is a must-have. Flattering on all skin tones, the discreet hue brings the perfect balance between colour and care. The active ingredients in the formula are manuka honey and vitamin E to both moisturise and protect from antioxidants.

Flawless and Pawless is Ireland's cruelty-free cosmetic blog created by 23 year-old cosmetic expert, Ailsha Davey. With eight years working in the beauty industry in Dublin as a professional make-up artist and cosmetic expert, Ailsha discovered some of the horrors of cosmetic animal testing- and the lack of knowledge within the Irish market about it. Flawless and Pawless has been set up to spread awareness across Ireland of cosmetic animal testing, as well as to provide suggestions for cruelty-free alternatives to the Irish market's favourite cosmetic products.
