Take a Cruelty-Free Shower

It is upsetting to find out that many of our favourite in-shower products still test on animals. No more Head & Shoulders or Herbal Essences, no more St. Ives or Palmolive- but the good news is there are plenty of cruelty-free alternatives that are extremely similar to these products, but are even better quality due to their natural ingredients. Here is my pick of products for the week to make sure you’re satisfyingly squeaky-clean!

Shampoo

One of my favourite cruelty-free alternatives to Pantene Pro V’s Smooth and Sleek shampoo is natural brand Jason’s Smoothing Sea Kelp Shampoo. The shampoo gently cleanses the hair and scalp while taming frizz, and continues to tame frizz even further with every use. The power ingredient in the formula is Sea Kelp, which is naturally bursting with vitamins, essential fatty acids and minerals, which work together to replenish moisture within the hair. The frizz is managed by the combination of Ginseng Root and Plumeria Acutifolia, and Kukui Nut Oil blocks out humidity and keeps the hair shiny all day. The shampoo is safe for colour-treated hair and it smells divine.JASON_Smoothing_Sea_Kelp_Pure_Natural_Shampoo_473ml_1371562662Jason Smoothing Sea Kelp Shampoo, €6.51, available at Holland and Barrett and health food stores nationwide.

Body Wash

For a thorough cleanse that foams over the body, look no further than Irish natural brand Nía’s brand new Intensive Shower Mousse. Similar in texture to Imperial Leather’s Foamburst shower gel, the mousse gathers into a lather and glides over the skin, cleansing deep into the pores. The rich formula contains Aloe Vera to hydrate, Coconut oil to moisturise, Natural Vitamin C to produce collagen and Orange Oil to re-fresh and invigorate. It is an indulgent treat to kick-start your day with, with no nasty chemicals to seep into your skin!

Exfoliator

When you think about it, opting for cruelty-free exfoliators in a lot better for the environment as a whole as they contain natural exfoliants, and never ever any kind of beads. My favourite exfoliator to use in the shower at the moment is The Body Shop’s Cream Body Scrub in Moringa, which comes in a 200ml. I’ve always been obsessed with the scent of Moringa in The Body Shop’s products ever since I was fourteen, when my best friend used to buy it for me for my birthday or just as a random present because she knew I loved it! The formula’s Moringa seeds are a natural exfoliant, helping to remove dead skin cells and reveal smooth, baby-soft skin.moringa-exfoliating-cream-body-scrub-2-640x640

Face Wash

If you haven’t heard of Dr. Goldfaden MD yet, then you’re in for an absolute treat! This brand uses only natural ingredients, is paraben and cruelty-free. The range of skincare products are formulated by a certified dermatologist who knows exactly how to tackle problem skin and enhance one’s glow. I would recommend cleansing your face with Dr. Goldfaden MD Detox Clarifying Facial Wash, a brilliant alternative to La Roche Posay’s Effaclar Purifying Cleansing Gel. The bottle lasts for a long time as you only need one pump per use! The formula combines Lactic and Glycolic acid, which remove excess dirt, oils and dead skin cells from deep within the pores. The brand’s unique Detox ComplexTM consists of potent fruit extracts as well as active plan cells, which protect against pollution and detoxify the skin.

Flawless and Pawless is Ireland's cruelty-free cosmetic blog created by 23 year-old cosmetic expert, Ailsha Davey. With eight years working in the beauty industry in Dublin as a professional make-up artist and cosmetic expert, Ailsha discovered some of the horrors of cosmetic animal testing- and the lack of knowledge within the Irish market about it. Flawless and Pawless has been set up to spread awareness across Ireland of cosmetic animal testing, as well as to provide suggestions for cruelty-free alternatives to the Irish market's favourite cosmetic products.

  1. LOVE THIS! I so agree, I am taking the big plunge. I have only been buying cruelty free products for the last year but unfortunately owned lots of products that weren’t. Time to purge and have a new start.

    Lovely read xx
